IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING RAPISCAN 620DV WITH TYPE C LIQUID EXPLOSIVE DETECTION (LEDS)

Rapiscan is pleased to announce that the Rapiscan 620DV dual-view advanced baggage scanner has attained Liquid Explosive Detection (LEDS) Type C certification, set by the European Commission for Civil Aviation’s (ECAC) Common Evaluation Process (CEP).
The Rapiscan 620DV is now a Type C Standard 1 LEDS system under the ECAC CEP. This allows customers to deploy the Rapiscan 620DV with LEDS for compliance with the April 2011 EU regulatory deadline. The purpose of this communication is to provide Rapiscan sales channels and distributors with the following information regarding the 620DV with Type C LEDS:
  • Regulatory Summary
  • 620DV Features and Benefits
  • Competitive Positioning
  • How to order your LEDS package
  • Important notes regarding software functionality
Regulatory Summary
  • April 2011 EU regulatory deadline: At the end of April 2011, transit passengers who fly from non-EU nations into EU airports for connections will be able to carry liquids purchased at the departure airport or in-flight in their hand luggage, as long as the liquid is in a clear tamper-proof bag with a receipt attached AND the liquid has been screened using an EU LEDS Standard 1 certified system. Therefore, to meet this deadline, airports will have to deploy approved LEDS certified systems. The Rapiscan 620DV is an approved LEDS Standard 1 certified system.
  • 2013 LEDS compliance: From 29th April 2013 the liquids ban will be lifted completely, for all passengers and all carry-on liquids at EU airports. As of April 2013, all liquids will have to be screened with LEDS that are approved to Type C Standard 2.
  • Update on Type C Standard 2 LEDS Software Development. Our development team is planning to submit the 620DV system for Type C Standard 2 LEDS certification well in advance of the April 2013 deadline.
  • 620DV Features and Benefits
  • Upgradeability: With its advanced software platform, the 620DV automatic threat detection algorithms can be upgraded to meet other international threat detection requirements. This is important because when regulators harmonize their detection regulations, your customers will need to purchase systems that meet all standards. The 620DV is 1 of only 3 systems that have been certified to both the EU LEDS standard and the TSA Advanced Technology X-ray standard.
  • Dual-View threat detection generates 2 high-definition images at perpendicular angles, increasing the operator’s ability to identify potential threat items.
  • Modular and ergonomic design for easy integration into existing checkpoint facilities. The 620DV has the smallest footprint and lowest energy consumption of any internationally approved advanced cabin baggage screening system.
  • Dual view screening improves checkpoint efficiency because it reduces the number of secondary checks and  the processing time of image review associated with complex, densely packed cabin baggage.
  • Cost effective: The 620DV has the lowest total cost of ownership of any internationally regulatory approved dual view advanced technology system.
